All known Exodus technologies (Portal construction, Frame navigation, nano transformations, landscape alteration, and massive defense shields) are based on energy that could easily be gathered in colossal amounts in the Sponge. For example, the amount of energy, stored in the Spiral of a single Frame is equal to the energy capacity of a small star.

When Frames exited the Sponge dimension and entered a real planet, many changes to technologies were required. A huge amount of energy had been stored in Frame Spirals, but it was no longer possible to gather energy using known methods. The technologies of energy gathering and utilization needed to change.

One of the most important Exodus and Harkback developments on New Earth was the Tactical Manipulator of Direct Action, the Providence. This device was developed based on a Frame subsidiary navigation device and was connected with the Frame Spiral by an energy channel.

The Providence is used to reshape the landscape and to affect allied and enemy forces. Only chosen Legates are granted with the right to control this device.

Both factions came to use navigational devices as weapons during the war on New Earth and the associated arms race - the desperate search for new means and methods of war. All Frames had been equipped with similar navigational devices, therefore Providences of both factions evolved into weapons with similar functionality. However in time the scientists of Exodus and Harkback developed new unique offensive algorithms for the Providence.
